If it were me doing it, I'd cut out construction paper, make characters that way, kinda like South Park did in their first episode... maybe just use a scanner for each frame, and hope I could import them into program... gotta practice small first, to get the action/timing thing down. BTW, I'm a lay person, haven't done onion skin since the 3rd or 4th grade...
